The winter midweek box leagues are now posted at the clubhouse. They can also be viewed in the ‘tournament draws’ section of the website.

All matches should be completed by 27th February 2009. Winner of each league will be the player with most games won. In the event of a tie, will be decided by game difference, if still tied then head to head score.

Box league matches must be played Monday to Friday (including Bank Holidays), unless agreed by both competitors (subject to membership playing entitlement).

Please try to play your matches when demand for courts is lowest. Courts cannot be booked for box league matches. Handicap tournament matches must take precedence over box league matches.

Each match consists of one long set. When one person reaches ten games, the match finishes. If the score reaches 9-9, a tie break must be played. Please write your score on the relevant league score-sheet.

Some phone numbers of competitors are either not in the yellow book or incorrect. Please check the noticeboard in the clubhouse.

Ladies’ Doubles and Gentlemen’s Doubles; closing date for entries Tuesday 9th December 2008, Finals Day Saturday 7th March 2009.

Rules

• The draw will be made on the closing date at 5pm and the competition will start.
• Without exception, late entries or replacements will not be accepted.
• To enter, write your name on the relevant sheet; doubles partners will be drawn at random.
• If you are entering for another person, you must have their agreement.
• Please make sure you are available for finals day.
• You must contact your opponent(s) as soon as possible to arrange your match.
• If you cannot contact or do not get a reply from your opponent(s), contact the tournament referee as soon as possible.
• If you are going away, please inform the tournament referee and your opponent(s), if known.
• Players who make no attempt to contact their opponent(s) might be withdrawn from the tournament.
• Only 2 courts can be booked for tournament matches at any one time. To maximise court availability, on weekend mornings courts may only be booked at 09.00, 11.00 or 12.30. Floodlit courts cannot be booked at any time.
• Results (including scores) must be written on the draw sheet immediately after a match.
• When you have won a match and your opponent(s) for the next round is/are already known, it is your responsibility to contact them as soon as possible.
• All matches must be completed by the relevant date. If you cannot complete your match by the date, please contact the tournament referee.
Matches not played by the relevant date, where no contact has been made with the tournament referee, will be decided by the toss of a coin.
• The tournament referee’s decision is final.

How to play

• Each player/pair is designated a handicap, eg. +30, -15.
• To work out your net handicaps for each match use Table 1, eg. -15, -30 becomes SCR, -15.
• All matches are one long set, first to 12, no tie-breaks.
• To work out the starting score for each game, use Table 2.
• Whoever wins the toss may elect to serve or receive, but you must stick to the starting score sequence in Table 2.
• All games should start from the right, but if both players/pairs agree then it can start from the left for ease of scoring (it should be remembered that there can be an advantage to one side if the games are not always started from one side).
• Any queries should be addressed to the tournament referee.
