Thank you to everyone who was involved on the Davis Cup Event at the club.
We were exceptionally lucky with the weather that held off raining and were privileged to have at the club two fantastic Davis Cup Coaches - Jamie Baker & James Auckland who worked tirelessly to provide training sessions to all those that signed up.
Feedback so far has been brilliant with everyone having a fantastic day.
A huge thank you goes out to Loraine Beaumont who took total control with Val Matthews and Henrietta Page in the kitchen providing all day refreshments to the players (Wendy you were missed).

The decision was made by the committee of WELTC that the funds raised be allocated to a Junior Performance Squad for the development of those individuals at the club showing outstanding talent. It was proposed and agreed that these courses would run free of charge for those Juniors who are looking at developing their match skills with the intention of attending tournaments and promoting the club’s name and image throughout the year. Selection was made on those that had been actively pursing competitions outside of the club, those that would benefit from improvement of match specific related skills, increasing fitness in order to maximise their chances of success in LTA rated tournaments. Each session runs for an hour and a half on Sunday evenings and includes 30-45 minutes of fitness and the remaining on match skills. These sessions are running for 6 weeks to gauge interest and attendance by those already selected for the first session. It will then be reviewed by the committee once they finish at the end of March with the hope of further classes continuing after. It is the clubs aim to spread the money raised to as many junior members as possible showing talent and that a further six sessions be held for those that fit the selected criteria. To date the sessions have been a huge success with many parents commenting positively on the idea of the classes themselves and no one selected has yet missed a lesson. It is hoped that we are soon able to provide the “Squad” with t-shirts or sweatshirts showing that they are part of this Elite Squad of players. |
